Some employers believe that a drug-free workplace program and drug testing are one and the same. However, drug testing is only one element, albeit a very important tool to establish and maintain a drug-free workplace program.  Without testing as part of the program, there is no reasonable means to take action on an employee the company believes may be under the influence. Testing helps ensure that your workplace is safe, your employees are healthy and your company productive and competitive.  Having a testing program enables the company to:

• minimize the chance of hiring employees who may be users or abusers
• reinforce the company position on drug and alcohol use
• identify current users and abusers
• convince "casual users" that the cost of using is too high
• deter "recreational" drug use that could lead to addiction
• reduce the costs of alcohol and drug abuse in the workplace
• give recovering users another reason to stay sober (relapse prevention).

DESCRIPTION

DSG will review and evaluate the existing testing program and, as appropriate, identify new testing methodologies and services.  The evaluation includes:

• testing methodologies including urine, breath, oral fluids, blood and hair testing
• rapid testing
• on site testing
• blending methodologies and technologies
• panel options
• specimen collection procedures
• certified laboratory
• certified Medical Review Officer (MRO)
• reporting procedures and reports
