Conducting a review can be accomplished verbally via conference call or more formally via a written summary.  The recommendations include omissions, suggested additions, potential legal pitfalls, and potential cost-reductions, and options for improved return on investment.  The following is taken into consideration:

• Is the company using the policy and is it making a difference?
• Is the policy reasonable?
• Is the policy legal, based on federal, state and case law?
• Are all the appropriate prohibited conducts included?
• Does the policy address drug use only?
• How are alcohol consumption, possession and storage addressed?
• Are key terms defined?
• Is the testing being conducted going to provide the best return on investment?
• Are there mechanisms and resources for intervention?
• What are the consequences of a policy violation or a positive test?
